Using Business Evolution Methodology for evaluating investments

I am a Global Ambassador and Board Advisor to Evolution Alliance, the global community that developed the Business Evolution Framework, which my friend Francisco Palao—also my classmate at Singularity University GSP 11 cohort—founded in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Evolution Alliance empowers individuals and organizations to rise to new challenges and create real impact.

Francisco encouraged me to take the Business Evolution Coach program so that I could better understand how potential startups and initiatives emerging from the Business Evolution Challenges could be identified for investment opportunities, particularly within one of my projects: EPIC (Exponential Positive Impact Capital) – EPICHub.org, a revenue-sharing social impact investment platform.

The course was amazing—not only because of the way Francisco runs it, but also due to the incredible cohort of classmates selected from around the world. The program is highly personalized, and the time zone difference of being in Australia meant that I attended sessions from 11 PM to 1 AM three times a week, with assignments after each session—an extremely demanding experience. This, coupled with group assignments and readings, made it even more intense, as the methodology integrates key concepts from Agile/Scrum, Business Model Canvas, ExO Canvas, Design Thinking, Value Proposition Canvas, OKRs, and more. Any of these frameworks alone would require a full course, but Francisco masterfully distills their core principles into actionable insights that we, as Business Evolution Coaches, can apply to mentor companies and initiatives effectively.

One of the most powerful tools in the program is the Business Evolution Framework, which allows us to assess a company’s status, strengths, and areas for improvement. The program is structured into three key phases:

  1. Toolsets and methodology—covering the eight core axes of the Business Evolution Framework: Purpose, People, Customers, Sustainability, Abundance, Processes, Product, and Metrics.
  2. Teamwork on real case studies—collaborating with peers to apply the methodology in real-world scenarios.
  3. Actual mentoring of companies and initiatives—where we put our learning into action, helping real businesses evolve towards impact-driven success.

I strongly believe that this methodology could be a game-changer if tailored for investment evaluation, allowing investors to assess not just financial viability but also long-term impact potential.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my classmates and Francisco for their patience and support, especially as I underwent a heart procedure during the program. I also want to thank my mentee companies, including EPIC and Watchyourtalk founders, for their collaboration in completing my mentoring sprints in record time! And, of course, a big thank you to all the unsung heroes—family, friends, and supporters—who stood by me throughout this journey.

I look forward to continuing to collaborate with Francisco and the Evolution Alliance community to drive meaningful transformation, as it aligns perfectly with my Massive Transformative Purpose (MTP): “Seek, share, and apply knowledge to progress humanity.”
